I truly thought life was good. I have a degree in Environmental Science and Biology and was one of the lucky ones landed a job in my field with the Air Pollution program in Memphis. I have a beautiful family: three lovely girls, Christian who attends church, Sunday school, PTA meetings, and the works. On October 2005, my sister sent an e-card announcing her home based business with Mary Kay. I will never forget as soon as I read the email I called my other sisters, the Twins. I said, “I hope she doesn’t think I’m selling Mary Kay”. I called her and said the same thing. She said, “I didn’t ask you to sell Mary Kay”. End of conversation.
A month later, my family and I spent Thanksgiving in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. My sister, Linda got all of her MK Demo items out of her car, decorated the table, and everyone was trying the products at the table and writing checks. I asked her one question, “Can I write this off on my taxes?” She said, “Yes”. I said, “O.k., Sign me up!” We tried the Microdermabrasion set but my mind was already made up ON THE BUSINESS. I started, December 05, 2005.
My director called me and we went over inventory. I decided if I wanted my own business I needed a full store. When the boxes came, I panicked. I put them in my coat closet for about three weeks. Then I decided to make sure I had everything that I ordered. I started passing out the temporary cards that came in my kit. My sister called and walked me through MK Connections to get some real business cards.
My first year, I just sold the products to friends, family members, referrals, church members, high school friends and to everyone that would buy. I trained myself online mainly because I didn’t know anyone locally. My husband and I meet for lunch from time to time. We went to this hotel downtown for lunch ONE DAY. I passed my card to the receptionist and she said, “You all normally have a meeting here once a year”. I researched, registered and attended Career Conference alone that year. So I watched the ladies and spotted one of the top directors. I asked her where did she train and she shared that information with me. A year later it was career conference time again and I didn’t want to go by myself so I contacted the directors I saw onstage and started training. Five (5) months later, I submitted my card for directorship and four (4) months later I became a director. Now I coach and train wonderful consultants like you.
